Watch The First Trailer For 'Aquaman' Here, And See Why It's Making Waves

The character usually takes the brunt of jokes in the DC universe, but the trailer released for Aquaman has GOT alum Jason Momoa make an attempt to change that. Released during the San Diego Comic-Con, which also saw Warner Bros. unveil the trailer for Shazam!, the action-packed trailer plays host to the likes of Nicole Kidman and Amber Heard, who play Queen Atlanta and Mera respectively.

Momoa’s first standalone superhero film explores how Arthur Curry discovers his relationship with the royalty of Atlantis, and how he has to step up to save basically everyone. It dives into personal territory, as Curry’s half-brother King Orm, played by Patrick Wilson, is the one to root against.

With DC’s track record of dark, vaguely grim movies, one hopes Aquaman will serve as a palette cleanser, and the trailer certainly seems to be pointing in that direction—in fact, Aquaman’s involvement in last year’s Justice League seemed to hint towards Momoa’s comedic timing from way before.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman is slated to make waves at the tail-end of the year, on 21 December, to be more precise.
