Forget about the ambiguity surrounding him playing James Bond, Idris Elba is pretty much confirmed to be a part of the next adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical, Cats.
What was once the longest-running show on Broadway (before The Phantom of the Opera took that title away), the musical is based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot.
Deadline reports that Elba will be taking on the role of Macavity (the one there’s no one like), and will be joining the likes of Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Taylor Swift and Ian McKellen. The movie, set for a late 2019 release, will be directed by Tom Hooper, who has a pretty impressive list of directorial credits (and an Oscar) to bolster him: The King’s Speech, The Danish Girl, Les Misérables and many, many more. Joining the crew will be Andrew Lloyd Webber himself along with Steven Spielberg, who will be serving as the movie’s executive producer.
Elba already has quite a few projects lined up, such as The Fate of the Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw and Turn Up Charlie, a new television series.
