The intent for the spankin’ new A5 and S5 is clear—they’re young, fun, sporty and make a statement of youth unlike an average run-of-the mill luxury sedan. They promise an unique blend of supercar pace with the grace of a high-end car. Sandwiched between the A4 and A6, the A5 is a four-door coupé (Sportback in Audi speak) which oozes sex appeal and individuality. Incredibly low slung and dotted with shiny details, the A5 looks gorgeous. We love its badass twin, the S5, too. The S5 boasts of an even shinier grille, bigger alloys and quad exhausts. Tasty.

The S5 packs in a naughty secret with a thumping 3.0 turbocharged V6 petrol engine with 354 bhp and 500Nm. The fruity exhaust note is the icing on the cake. The eight-speed tiptronic and Quattro all-wheel drive system helps it go from 0-100 kmph in 4.7 seconds with a limited top-speed of 250 kmph. That’s enough to shame some sports cars. If the V6 isn’t your cup of tea, there’s also a 2.0 diesel variant with a more modest 190 bhp and 400Nm.

There’s a gentleman’s club vibe on the inside—classy switchgear, top-class materials, a running air vent across the dash and enough gadgets to make all of geekdom squeal. The virtual cockpit is fully customisable with a heads-up display, three-zone climate control, Audi smartphone integration, and a bangin’ B&O audio system among other features.

The best part of the S5/A5 is its surreal handling and its ability to shine in all conditions regardless of any road surface-—including those terribly managed local roads. What’s more, the famous Quattro system provides idiot-proof handling on all surfaces. Also, unlike a regular sports car, you can pack in your buddies with enough space in the back.

With a starting price of `54 lakh for the diesel Sportback and `70.6 lakh for the S5 Sportback, these cars are all about having your cake and eating it too. And you can take the top down for a little extra swag, as Audi will also be selling a convertible version of the A5. The choice is yours. As for us, we want all three…
