Going where hotness has not gone before...
Born in Mumbai, raised in Nigeria, the UK and Canada, and now spiking temperatures all over the world, Nazneen Contrator is the best thing to happen to geekdom in a long time.
And she's a trained classical ballerina. Gents, prepare to be beamed to a land of sexiness. You may remember her as Kayla Hassan, daughter of President Omar (played by Anil Kapoor) in the TV show 24. Or you may have been looped in by her in the new Star Trek movie. Either way, Nazneen Contractor will catch your eye. She’s a traveller, a do-gooder and rides a mean bike. That’s about all you need to know.
Hi, Nazneen, and we’re so glad to have you in maxim. A hottie like you quite naturally deserves a place in our hearts and on these pages. How do you feel?
Excited my time has come and I’m thrilled because I’ve always wanted to be a MAXIM girl! I can cross it off my life’s “to do” list.
You’ve been raising quite a storm in Hollywood with your work, whether it is in theatre, on television or in the movies. How’s it going?
I’m only getting started! My career thus far has been an odyssey filled with the opportunity to work with some of the people I admire most in this business, from JJ Abrams to Howard Gordon to Paul Reiser, and so many talented minds in between. My family strongly supports me and it makes a huge difference.
The Star Trek franchise is seriously awesome stuff! What was it like shooting for the new film? You’ve certainly become part of legend now.
The experience was very special as it was the same crew and director from the first instalment, so there was already a real sense of community. Everyone was focused on making the best possible movie. The shooting was a very secretive process and everyone’s script was watermarked and collected at the end of each day. We were cloaked while we were travelling to and from the set. Even my character’s name wasn’t revealed to me until recently. Those Trekkies are almost as passionate as Hindi movie fans.
What about doing some work here in India? Any plans for that in the future?
I would love the opportunity to film in India as it’s always been a goal of mine to shoot something in my homeland. I would love to work with Neil Nitin Mukesh... Johnny Gaddar is one of my favourite films.
Considering you’ve been a part of both science fiction and cop drama, which roles do you fancy more and why? And men—of science or in uniform?
I enjoy creating all sorts of different characters. Regardless of whom I am playing or what universe they belong to, I am very conscious about bringing out the characters’ unique vulnerabilities and their strengths. It’s what makes them compelling. Confidentially, I have a weakness for playing characters who kick butt. And I think I prefer men in science over men in uniform. Brain over brawn any day of the week.
Indian men or men in North America: How are they different and who do you prefer dealing with?
Men are men. I love them all. I’d never compare them or think of pegging them against one another.
Speaking of dating, what’s an ideal date like?
An early morning run outdoors, followed by a soak in a natural hot spring, a motorcycle ride to a gallery or exhibit followed by a film and a dinner of oysters
Wow. We’re there. What works for you—subtle hints or your man going all out?
I’m an all-or-nothing kind of girl. I need a man who goes all out.
You’ve got a smoking hot body, BTW. What do you love the most about it?
Well, thank you. I’ve always been told I have a lovely back and I own many plunging backless dresses to show it off. It seems to be a real crowd-pleaser. I wonder what your readers think is their favourite part?
We’d guess, but that would be impolite. If you get a chance to spend a day with MAXIM, how would you schedule it?
I’d love to do a location shoot in Bali. I am an experienced traveller and found Bali to be one of the most romantic places. It’s such a lush, sultry, sensual and diverse landscape that has always appealed to me. They have some incredible beaches, hot springs, waterfalls and volcanoes which would make for fantastic locations. My dream day would start early morning at the Nammos Beach Club for some waves and sand pics, then off to the Tegenungan Waterfall for some killer wet shots, followed by a hike into Bali’s Bratan volcano where we can use their natural hot springs and arid landscape to create some steamy pictures. We would wrap up the day at the Bulgari hotel, doing a sunset shoot in their magnificent pool. Maybe throw in a couple handsome men to carry the equipment and that would be a dream day with you.
We’re booking tickets, but we have an all-girl crew. What’s the one thing a man must know to impress you?
He must know how to inspire my mind. So, languages and culture are a must.
