Bond’s Newest Ride: The Aston Martin BD10

Astom Martin DB 10- Maxim-Lead

Bond drove many cars, but the Aston Martin DB5 in 1964’s Goldfinger set a standard—becoming a full-fledged weapon, complete with machine guns, ejector seats, and other far-from-standard equipment. So in creating an action-ready ride for Spectre, the compnay took cues from that Connery-era classic. “We don’t do retro design, so it can’t be a parody of the original,” Marek Reichman, Aston Martin’s chief creative officer, tells the team from MAXIM U.S. “It has to be modern and unique but also from the same bloodline.” He breaks down Bond’s fancy new toy, the DB10.

Renault 11 TXE

SEEN IN A View To A Kill
007 Roger Moore

SUPER SPY SPEC It’s a French car so no extras, just balls of steel!

BOND BITE At least two 11’s took a battering during the five-day filming of the Paris chase scene that sees Grace Jones’ Mayday leap from the Eiffel Tower—don’t tempt us and to think brave Roger Moore had to play a love scene with her at the height of her nose candy habit. The Renault’s moment of glory comes when it leaps onto the roof of a moving bus before having its roof sliced off by a metal gate. We suppose it’s one way to get a convertible!

Jaguar XKR

SEEN IN Die Another Day
007 Pierce Brosnan

SUPER SPY SPEC 4.2-litre 400bhp bastard with thermal imaging, rear-mounted Gatling gun, boot-mounted mortar, 18 front-mounted heat-seeking missiles and a hydraulic battering ram.

BOND BITE This gnarly Jaguar is probably the best-armed car in the entire Bond pantheon. It’s like a freaking tank, it’s that tooled-up and it’s so much of a hard son of a bitch that they even made it a soft top in freezing cold Iceland. We bet it doesn’t even have heaters so it can pack more ammo on board. Anyway, taking the mad-Jag out proves to be one of Bond’s toughest takedowns, but he eventually manages to ditch it in the lake’s freezing waters.

SEEN IN Die Another Day

007 Pierce Brosnan

SUPER SPY SPEC Missile launchers, machine-guns and landmine-evading
float technology.

BOND BITE This killer opening sequence sees Bond chasing Colonel Moon over a million-plus land mines. While Moon’s craft floats magically over the deadly devices Bond has to rattle off his missiles and machine guns to clear a path through before leaping aboard his foe’s floating hair dryer.

Glastron CV-23HT

Glastron-CV-23HT- Maxim

SEEN IN Moonraker
007 Roger Moore

SUPER SPY SPEC Bulletproof shields, ejecting mines, rear torpedo and concealed escape hang-glider.

BOND BITE As Moonraker takes Bond to space, they wanted to make sure that all of 007’s earth-bound kit looked just as sexy—so take a bow, Glastron and their heavily modified CV-23HT. This brute of a boat stars in the sequence that sees Bond chased by metal-mouthed giant Jaws and his cronies down the Tiparape river in Brazil. The chase winds up at the world-famous 269-foot Iguazu Falls where Bond drives over the edge before nimbly escaping in his craftily secreted hang-glider.

007 Sean Connery

SUPER SPY SPEC Front-wing 7.6mm machine guns, dash-mounted tracking system, bulletproof rear shield, oil-slick dispenser, tyre scythes, ejector seat, bulletproof windows and revolving number plates. This baby is loaded.

BOND BITE Captured by Goldfinger’s goons, Bond is held at gunpoint and forced to drive the DB5. He makes his escape by dispatching his pistol-toting passenger using the ejector seat and then dispenses with the rest of the henchmen with a few death salvoes from the car’s Browning machine guns.

Rolls Royce Phantom III

Rolls-Royce-Phantom-III

SEEN IN Goldfinger
007 Sean Connery
SUPER SPY SPEC A classic motor with a stonking great V12 engine, but it’d need to be as this Roller is crafted out of solid gold!
